Discarded Cement Power Poles – New Homes for Fish
Discarded cement power poles, a concern for Taipower, now have a new use. They have become construction materials for the nurturing of marine resources. The southern district of the Hsinchu fishing harbour is building assembled houses with discarded cement power poles for coastal fish, with visible results. The assembled houses which are established in the deep seabed not only prevent large trawlers from over fishing the area and thus causing exhaustion of marine resources, but also provide habitat for the small fish that are released along the coast.
