Formosan Landlocked Salmon Population Increases by 500% Last Year
Peng Mao-hsiung, deputy director of the Shei-pa National Park Headquarters, said that Taiwanese Salmon is the abbreviation for the Formosan landlocked salmon, and their hometown is Chijiawan. In 1996, Professor Lin Hsing-chu of the Chung Hsing University was contracted to form an inter-school research team to survey and monitor the ecology of the Wulin area and conduct an environmental survey. The result of the resource survey showed that a total of 2696 Formosan landlocked salmon were found in the Chijiawan watershed. This number was five times more than the number found in 1995 of 522.
