Cross-breeding between the Taiwan bulbul and light-vented bulbul calls for greater protection of the species. Except in Mt. Nanren Ecological Protected Area that has the purest species of the Taiwan bulbul, hybrids with Light-vented Bulbul in various degrees are found everywhere. The Construction and Planning Administration of the Ministry of Interior estimates that there are pure Taiwan bulbuls in Mt. Nanren Ecological Protected Area, Longkeng Ecological Protected Area, and Sheding Formosan Sika Deer Restoration Area. The administration also appeals to citizens' ecological concern: do not release Taiwan bulbuls any more in order to maintain biodiversity for Taiwan's native animals.
