Taroko National Park Headquarters to kick off Tribal Concert Series on April 28, 2007

Experience Taroko (Truku) Culture through songs and dances
Taroko National Park Headquarters to kick off Tribal Concert Series on April 28, 2007

Every indigenous tribal culture evolves, depending on the different environment. Music, dance, and handicrafts give away a group’s lifestyle, religious beliefs, and wisdom. These put outsiders on the road to understanding the meaning of a particular culture. In the Taroko (Truku) people’s case, the waters of Liwu River and the mountains through which it flows have nurtured a precious culture. The Taroko “Tribal Concert" and “Creative Culture Fair” will guide the general public to understand Taroko (Truku) culture better especially through the traditional songs, dances, and handcrafts.

The "Tribal Concert" and “Creative Culture Fair” in the Taroko National Park Headquarters area will be organized from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the last Saturday of every month from April to November in 2007.  The Taroko National Park Headquarters Visitor Center lawn area will be the venue of the activities. The Taroko (Truku) tribal communities in the area have been invited to give performances. The Gorge Chorus and the Jiwang Church Chorus will present a program of traditional songs and dances. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on those specific Saturdays, the “Creative Culture Fair” will have the different Taroko (Truku) community workshops bring out and sell their handwoven textile items and rattan plaited crafts, all showing the distinguishing features of the tribal handicrafts. Everyone is welcome to experience this original feast for the eyes, the ears and the taste buds.

According to Director Lin Yung-fa of the Taroko National Park Headquarters, the activities are intended not only to promote better understanding of the Taroko (Truku) culture but also to help develop the culture industries of the communities. Moreover, the Taroko (Truku) tribe has been facing the problem of passing on and preserving traditional culture. The Taroko National Park Headquarters has for years been encouraging the communities to motivate the young people to train in the traditional crafts and skills. Through the planned activities, community workshops will have more opportunities to display their handicrafts.
The Taroko “Tribal Concert" and “Creative Culture Fair” are to be held on April 28, May 26, June 30, July 28, August 25, September 22, and October 27. For the month of November, the date will be determined, depending on other events and activities already lined up. A total of eight rounds of concerts and fairs welcome everyone’s participation.
