The re-planning can be most helpful to enhance the quality of leisure.
The road section from Swallow Grotto to Jhuilu of the highway No. 8 of the Central Cross-Island highway is given with gorgeous valleys and splendid views, attracting tremendous amount of tourists locally and overseas to view about at the site. Since the gorge is tough and danger, there is often times serious traffic jam with large volume of traffic and tourists exchange during holidays and peak hours. In addition, since there is always potential risk of falling rocks at the section, the headquarter and the Directorate General of Highways has, in order to improve traffic safety as well as recreational quality, completed the works after more than 5 years of time of works implementation.
Once the Swallow Grotto Tunnel is opened to traffic, the previous road section will be changed into east-west bound single-lane traffic, while west-east bound traffic will be prohibited from entry. The separation system of traffic and pedestrian of the previous road section will be improved and pedestrian zone and one-way traffic lane will be planned. Furthermore, comprehensive recreational facilities will be instituted to provide tourists with comfortable sight-seeing space, thus enhancing the recreational quality of road and landscape at the Swallow Grotto.
