Interpreters in Kinmen National Park received a report from a renowned ornithologist Mr. Chung-Wei Yen who found the rare passage bird Red-throated Diver (Gavia Stellata) in Stone Carving Park during a field investigation. According to a Field Guide to the Birds of Taiwan and Wikipedia, the Red-throated Diver, also known as Red-throated Loon is the smallest and most widely distributed member of Diver species (Gaviidae). These mid-sized fish-eaters can dive to catch their preys. Breeding in northern hemisphere, the Red-throated Diver winters over Eurasia and North America.

Director of Kinmen National Park, Wen-Ching Huang said, Kinmen is located on Migration Flyways for migratory birds. With diverse environment and abundant natural resources, Kinmen is the perfect temporary home for Red-throated Diver. She hopes people while enjoy watching these rare winter visitors without interfere the birds or environment.
