As part of its "Sustainable development strategies for Taiwan Ecotourism" program, the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior convened the 1st Eco-Tourism Site Demonstration & Exchange Conference running from February 25 to 26. Academics and experts from National Taiwan University, Providence University, National Chiayi University, National Taichung University and the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology as well as representatives of the relevant central and local government bodies were invited to inspect the progress on the promotion of eco-tourism in Sheding Aboriginal Village in Kenting National Park. The purpose of the event was to allow eco-tourism related bodies to visit units that have delivered excellent performance in promoting eco-tourism. The resulting exchange of experiences will help to enhance the quality of domestic eco-tourism.

The Sheding region was chosen as an eco-tourism demonstration site for the Kenting National's Park's eco-tourism action plan. Through long-term management and guidance, the Kenting National Park Administration successfully built a consensus of support for eco-tourism among residents. The local people have now learned to care about their traditional living area and some have become Kenting National Park certified guides, a very meaningful development for both the village and the national park.
