Yushan National Park Expands the Ecological Protected Area

In support of the National Land Restoration Strategy as well as efforts to conserve eco-diversity and promote sustainable use of resources, the Yushan National Park Headquarters has in recent years commissioned experts and academics to carry out research and studies into eco-conservation. These included the National Park Association in Taiwan's survey of botanical/ecological resources and management and monitoring of medium-to-large mammal populations in the Nanzihsian River region(楠梓仙溪地區), and the Bat Association of Taiwan's study of bats in the northwestern part of the national park. The results yielded by these studies indicate the existence of rich ecological resources in the region.
The zoning changes announced in this bulletin covered four main regions: the area along the Nanzihsian River Forest Road (楠梓仙溪林道)changed from a Existing use area to an Ecological Protected Area; the Meilan Recreation Area (梅蘭遊憩區) changed to an Ecological Protected Area; the Walami area(瓦拉米地區) of the Batongguan Traversing Trail (八通關越道) changed from a Scenic Area to an Ecological Protected Area; the Dafeng Recreation Area changed to an Ecological Protected Area. A total of 3,530 hectares were affected by these changes.
