Two Kenting National Park ecological protected areas to close in May, 2008

Two of Kenting National Park’s ecological protected areas—Longkeng and Mt. Nanren, will be closed from May this year. Longkeng will be closed for one month, while it is estimated that Mt. Nanren’s closure will continue until the end of the year.

The Longkeng and Mt. Nanren areas of the Park are designated as ecological protected areas because of their special ecology, landscape and topography. Since the opening of these two areas in 1995, to avoid large numbers of visitors damaging the special natural environment, in addition to limiting visitor numbers every day, they are closed each year for one or two months, depending on the situation, for refreshment and maintenance. This year, Longkeng will be closed from May 1 to May 31. Mt.Nanren has been affected by the weather, the heavy rain making the ground slippery and hard to walk on. For the safety of visitors, it has been decided to close the mountain for repairs from May 1 and the closure is expected to last until the end of the year.
