Sibao & Songjhuang - the first phase of the Community Eco-tourism Empowerment Plan starts
To promote community eco-tourism, raise the cultural knowledge level of park and nearby community residents and form consensus, the first phase of the Community Cooperation Empowerment Plan, involving cooperation between Taroko National Park HQ, Sibao Primary School and Songjhuang Community, began on April 10.
This plan includes a monthly eco-tourism forum and film viewing, community eco-tourism environment building and community eco-tourism education and training, using integrated planning by a public body to promote the development of eco-tourism in the community.
On April 10, 2008, the Director of the Planning Management Section, Taroko National Park HQ, led six colleagues to participate in the “2008 Eco-tourism Community Forum and Environmental Conservation Film Viewing” activity. They were welcomed by Sibao Primary School Principal Jhang Shi-rui and local resident Jhang De-hui and others. The activity had over 90 participants, teachers and students and local residents. Taroko National Park HQ hopes, through joint school and community participation, to stimulate the overall transformation of industry in Sibao community and develop a model of eco-tourism that matches the national park spirit.
