Kinmen National Park HQ makes a big effort to restore and reuse old village houses
Oucuo village (歐厝聚落) has a cluster of completely preserved traditional houses. Two buildings, Ou-Yang Zhongyuan western-style house (歐陽鐘遠洋樓) and Lioulu Mansion (六路大厝), are the village landmarks. Kinmen National Park HQ believes that policy for unused old building reuse should change with the times. In addition to restoring a building’s “hardware”, “software” strengthening is also very important and, also, national park cultural construction guiding principles should be followed, to allow village resources to be protected in an appropriate way. The “Oucuo traditional gated building cluster”(歐厝隘門傳統建築群) reuse plan took into account the special features of the zone and the buildings and the various requirements of new users, and, after careful analysis and assessment, a suitable idea was put forward. The buildings have been positioned as a “display center’ for the use of the public. Re-planning and integration of peripheral old buildings and facilities has also been carried out. The “First stage of restoration work for Ouco village’s traditional gated building cluster” design plan has been completed by Kinmen National Park HQ and, it is estimated, that the work will be finished by the end of 2008. The completion of this work will enhance the cultural tourism value of Oucuo village.
