Renovation work on Kinmen National Park Headquarters’ Chiang Ching-kuo Memorial Hall completed and it is set to reopen soon

It is almost 20 years since the Chiang Ching-kuo Memorial Hall(蔣經國先生紀念館), located in Jhongshanlin Recreational Area (中山林遊憩區) in Kinmen National Park, opened. After almost 20 years of use and exposure to the elements, roof tiles occasionally fell off the main building, the walls were mottled in many places and the lights in the hall were often broken, affecting visitor safety and exhibit visibility. Director Wen-ching Huang (黃文卿處長)attached a lot of importance to the exhibition hall’s interpretation, education and leisure functions after he took up the post on August 1, 2006 and actively planned and set aside a budget for renovation of the memorial hall’s renovation, work which was finally completed in June 2008.

Building hardware renovation has been the main focus of renovation work. Water outlets on the eaves in the shape of the Wind Lion God (Spirit Lion Statue風獅爺) have also been added, matching the style of the building and adding an interesting touch. The exhibition hall texts are in Chinese and also English to serve the foreign visitors who, it is hoped, will flock to visit the memorial hall.

Director Huang said the memorial hall aims to present the full story of Chiang Ching-kuo’s life of struggle, difficulty and setback and also, through the camera lens, show his close interaction with the people of Kinmen, his down-to-earth style, natural warmth and spirit of sacrifice and service.
