Watch out for snakes in the heat of summer

In summer, various insects and reptiles are full of life. Snakes have been regularly seen around Shei-pa National Park’s Wenshuei Administration Center in Dahu rural township, Miaoli County, recently and the park HQ calls on visitors to the area to exercise extra caution.

Director Lin Ching of Shei-pa National Park said that Wensheui Visitor Center is outside Shei-Pa National Park, however, since the park HQ moved to the site in February 2001, much effort has been expended in management of the natural environment with the result that, today, the center's grounds, covering 10 hectares, are home to many animals found in the Dahu area. He said that in summer snakes become active and are seen frequently around the center. He called on visitors to take care, stay on the trails and to avoid crossing grassy areas and lingering around sheltered places along the stream to avoid danger. To protect visitors, the park HQ has arranged regular inspection patrols of the center’s grounds by specialized personnel.

Visitors are reminded that if they encounter a snake they should stay calm and leave the area as quickly as possible. Do not frighten the snake or try to catch it.
