A previously unrecorded species of long-horned beetle found in Kenting National Park
Up to the present around 800 species of long-horned beetle(天牛)have been recorded in Taiwan. Chung Yi-ting, who works in Houbihu Service Station in the park, has spent the last three years recording long-horned beetle species found in the park and has recorded over 100 different species. Text explanations and pictures of 85 species of beetle have been added to the Kenting National Park biological resource data bank which can be accessed by researchers and the general public.
Amongst the 85 newly-added long-horned beetles, the Euryclytosemia sp(寬叉紋黑天牛), had not been previously recorded in Taiwan. It was found in coastal forest at Siangjiao Bay(Banana Bay香蕉灣海岸林) in south Taiwan in 2003 and was identified by long-horned beetle experts as a species previously not recorded in Taiwan.
Kenting National Park’s protection of habitats and efforts to improve deteriorating habitats provides habitats for a variety of species. In the future, the park HQ will strengthen resource investigation and research work, accumulate more complete information and implement nature conservation work
