2008 Pingdong Hawk Migration Festival’ s “Manjhou Eagle-watching Expo”
A major annual event in the 2008 Pingdong Hawk Migration Festival-- Manjhou Eagle-watching Expo, will begin in Lide village, Manjhou rural township on October 10, National Day.
For over 20 years, the hawk watching activities organized every autumn by Kenting National Park HQ and Pingdong County Ornithological Society have become popular autumn tourist activities on the Hengchun peninsula. This year private and public resources have been combined to organize various bird watching activities, with the aim of increasing the participation of local government and local people, improving the local nature conservation image and boosting the local economy
Kenting National Park Director Lin Cing said: Manjhou is a lovely and peaceful valley which is why it was chosen as a rest stop by gray-faced buzzard eagles (butastur indicus灰面鵟鷹)on their migration south. Bird watching in Manjhou is a major event on the Taiwan tourism calendar every October. Let’s welcome these visitors from afar with a carnival-like joy and replace guns with binoculars and cameras to capture their beautiful images as they fly free in the sky!
