Google Earth to show off the beauty of Dongsha Marine National Park
International Union for Conservation of Nature and Google Earth cooperate to show off the beauty of Dongsha Marine National Park
Dongsha Marine National Park is Taiwan’s first marine national park. At a time when the establishment of national parks is being advocated worldwide to protect marine resources that are under threat from pollution, climate change and excessive exploitation, Taiwan has shown how much importance it attaches to this issue by establishing such a marine protected area.
The “Global Marine Protected Area Information Layer Plan” of the IUCN-World Commission on Protected Areas and Google Earth is an example of innovative cooperation between a conservation organization and an Internet company. Dongsha Marine Park has been included in the plan.
Under this plan, various information about the marine protected areas managed by IUCN WCPA-Marine, including location, type, characteristics, photographs and images will be placed on Google Earth. The public can tour these marine protected areas on-line and learn about their special features and conservation situation. Dongsha Marine National Marine Park HQ is very pleased to have been invited to take part in this plan and introduce Dongsha’s beauty and conservation situation to the world.
