Things to know about snow season mountain climbing applications for Taroko National Park
In the snow season, January-March, when applying for permits to climb routes over 3000 meters (except for Mt.Bilu, Mt. Yangtou, Mt. Bilu-to Mt. Yangtou and Mt. Cingshui,) a climbing plan is required in addition to on-line application. Please download the plan form (one type, three pages) from the park website, complete it and email to tnp007@taroko.gov.tw for approval.
Climbers are reminded that winter is here and the temperature at high altitudes is low, especially at night and in the early morning. In depressions and places sheltered from the sun, there is likely to be accumulated snow or ice and it is recommended that climbers carry appropriate snow climbing equipment to stay safe. Before setting out, visit the park website to find out the latest news. If typhoons or other disasters cause the route to be closed, already-approved permits will be cancelled according to rule 5 of “Things to know about applying for entry permits for ecological reserves in Yushan, Taroko, and Shei-pa national parks” and re-application is required when the route opens.
