Yushan National Park to hold the “Protect sacred mountain—Yushan worship activity 2009”

Allow the mountain and forests to recuperate, the circle of life to continue and show respect and love for the mountain¬— Yushan National Park to hold the “Protect sacred mountain—Yushan worship activity 2009”

To allow the mountain and forests to recuperate, the circle of life to continue and to show respect and love for the mountain, Yushan National Park Headquarters has organized the “Protect sacred mountain—Yushan worship activity” to mold a sacred mountain of Taiwan image for Yushan and to pass on aborigine traditional culture and view of nature so that climbers have a humble and respectful attitude when they get close to mountains and forests.

The difference in elevation in Yushan National Park is around 3,600 meters and it includes one thirds of the famous peaks of Taiwan. In the 100,000-plus hectares of the park, there are various types of vegetation, ranging from alpine tundra to tropical rainforest. The park contains the essence of the beauty of Taiwan. As noble as an emperor, majestic Yushan stands above the other peaks, offering a bird’s eye view for miles in every direction.  It is the highest peak in northeast Asia and a sacred mountain in the eyes of climbers from Taiwan and overseas.

The “2009 Yushan Worship Activity” (January 30 to March 1) will promote “clean mountain, quiet mountain, respect the mountain and get close to the mountain” concepts, that is, cleaning the mountain before enjoying a quiet mountain, respecting Yushan while the mountain is quiet and, in spring, holding a “get close to Yushan ceremony” to herald the start of the peak season for climbing Yushan. The aim is, with Yushan at the center, to allow people to understand the importance of mountain and forest conservation.
