A formal application has been made for the establishment of "Taiwan Wetlands Society"

Assisting with the establishment of a private wetlands promotion organization and platform-a formal application has been made for the establishment of "Taiwan Wetlands Society"

The CPA and International Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) jointly issued the “Asia Wetlands Taipei Declaration” in the first Asian Wetlands Convention, signed the Regional Strategic Plan for Action (RSPA) memorandum and consensus was reached between representatives taking part in the convention that a private wetlands promotional organization and information exchange platform should be established to integrate wetland resources in Taiwan.

The application made to the Ministry of the Interior for the establishment of the Taiwan Wetland Society by Academia Sinica researchers will be completed in April, 2009. The establishment of the Society will not just actually implement wetland conservation, it will also be responsible for ecological research work and integrating wetlands management scientific research and will become a wetland information exchange platform for Taiwan, an advisory body for the government’s wetlands related policies and a window for the promotion of international conservation exchange. The CPA will become a member of the Taiwan Wetlands Society and make data relating to Taiwan’s main wetlands available through the “National important wetlands website” to provide real support to the society.
