Stage Two of Kaohsiung’s back garden—Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park—has opened
After 13 years of management and maintenance in the 13 years since Stage 1 of Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park opened in 1996 , Stage 1 the park is now covered by lush green forest. Work on the Stage 2 of the park, on the site of the old Sicingpu landfill site, carried out by the CPA, has been completed and it opened on April 19. The total area of the park in the future will be 95 hectares, making it the biggest metropolitan park in Taiwan. It is also the first time a landfill site has been turned into a metropolitan park in Taiwan. It has complete facilities and rich ecological resources and will become the finest garden in Kaohsiung.
The facilities of Stage 2, including a music square, a cycle path, a walking path, a grass field for activities, a pavilion for scenery viewing, man-made ecological forest and themed gardens make it a forest park that is an ideal place for recreation and will allow people to release the stress of life and work. Leisure experience and joint maintenance by visitors and management will also allow visitors to understand how the park environment was formed and improved and make them cherish environment resources more.
