Kinmen National Park Headquarters began maintenance of the ship weapons on display in Zhaishan Tunnel on April 21
On April 21, Kinmen National Park Headquarters began carrying out maintenance of the ship weapons on display in the Zhaishan Tunnel square. The aim is to extend the display life of the exhibits and raise their quality to display the battlefield culture of Kinmen National Park and to continue to show the heroic deeds and results of the war preparedness efforts of the ROC military and allow the exhibits to play a part in interpretation and research for years to come.
In over forty years on the frontline the battles Kinmen experienced included the Guningtou Victorious Battle, the September 3 Artillery Battle, the Dadan & Erdan Artillery Battles and the August 23 Artillery Battle. Following the August 23 Artillery Battle of 1958, Kinmen was shelled "on even dates not odd” for over 20 years. Its combat zone history has left it with numerous pillboxes, tunnels, fortifications and a number of historic battle sites.
During maintenance work the national park headquarters will require that the company carrying it out implements suitable maintenance work and safety management measures. Visitors are asked to cooperate during the period of maintenance work by staying out the areas where work is taking place.
