An oil spillage from “Guanjun” fishing boat in Houbihu fishing harbor quickly dealt with

At around 9.30 am this morning, a report was received by Kenting National Park Headquarters from Houbihu Service Station saying that, for an unknown reason, a fishing boat had partially sunk in Houbihu fishing harbor, leaking dozens of liters of diesel oil into the harbor.

After receiving the report, Kenting National Park Director Lin Ching immediately led members of the park’s emergency response team to the harbor to direct the handling of the spill. Park staff and members of Coast Patrol Corps 6-3.in rubber dinghies laid an oil containment boom around the boat to prevent the oil spreading and laid oil absorbent roll to absorb the spilled oil. Through the joint efforts of the park staff and coast guard personnel the clean-up was completed at 1.50 pm. The stricken vessel was towed to a boat repair yard for repairs.
