Congratulations! A team of climbers from Taiwan scale Mt. Everest

A climbing team from Taiwan reached the summit of Mt. Everest at 10.37 am Nepal time (12.52 pm Taiwan time) on May 19. Congratulations on a tremendous achievement!

The preparations for the assault on Everest took three years, beginning with arduous thin air, weight carrying and rock climbing training and, during the attempt, the team had to overcome ferocious weather and inhospitable terrain. Through it all the climbers, Jiang Xiu-chen, a ranger with Yushan National Park, Umi, a Bunun “warrior” from Dongpu and Huang Jyh-How, a researcher, remained determined to achieve their goal of climbing the highest peaks on the seven continents. They have witnessed the magnificent beauty of the seven highest peaks on each continent and, stood atop the world’s highest peak, demonstrated the determination and bravery that are characteristics of the people of Taiwanese.

Minister of the Interior Liao Liou-yi and the Director General of the CPA Yeh Shih-wen heard this news as soon as it was reported back and immediately sent a message of congratulations to the team’s Everest base camp.
