Jiuqudong( (Tunnel of Nine Turns) Trail will be closed until June 30 for rock fall protective net (barrier) trials

After a series of rock falls injured visitors, Taroko National Park Headquarters plans to carry out trail rock fall protection measures along Jiuqudong (Tunnel of Nine Turn) Trail. To allow these trials to go ahead and give the rock time to stabilize afterwards, Taroko National Park Headquarters has decided to close Jiuqudong Trail until June 30 and requests the understanding of visitors. During the period Jiuqudong Trail is closed visitors can still enjoy the beauty of Taroko Gorge at Swallow Grotto (Yanzihkou), Liufang Bridge, Cimu (Motherly Devotion) Bridge and other places.

A park headquarters spokesperson said that in April and May three rock falls resulted in injury to visitors on the trail and that a solution has been actively sought since the beginning of May, including providing safety hats to visitors free of charge and strengthening public information work to make visitors more safety conscious. Geologist Professor Zhang Shi-jiao has also been commissioned to come up with a workable method.
