The Eternal Spring Shrine section of the old Central Cross-Island Highway is undergoing slope scouring and vegetation planting work. Visitors should take extra care
To make the Eternal Spring Shrine section of the old Central Cross-Island Highway safer Taroko National Park Headquarters is carrying out slope scoring and vegetation planting work. The road will still be open, however, its width will be halved and the park headquarters calls on visitors and drivers to be careful when passing through the area.
The park headquarters said that it is common for this section of road to have small scale rock falls after heavy rain or earthquakes. No one has been injured but this is an area where visitors often stop their cars to get out and admire the view. The scouring work is being carried out to protect visitors. This will clear away loose rock and slope protecting plant seeds will also be sown, so that the risk of rock falls is reduced. The width of the old Central-cross Island Highway will reduced by half to facilitate the work. The park headquarters reminded visitors that when in this area they should pay special attention to safety. The reduction in road width also means that drivers should be prepared to give way when necessary when meeting on-coming vehicles.
