Shei-pa National Park signs cooperation agreements with Bhutan

For many years Shei-pa National Park Headquarters has made substantial efforts with regards to the preservation of and research into the culture of Taiwan’s indigenous people. To give a higher profile to aborigine issues and raise Taiwan’s international profile, the “When Nature Meets Culture:The International Forums for National Parks and Indigenous Cultural Understanding of Nature” activity series began on October 21.

The activities kicked off at Shei-pa National Park’s Wenshui Visitor Center, with 17 representatives from overseas taking part. During the “International Indigenous People’s Culture Exchange Symposium,” the national park signed a cooperation agreement with Bhutan’s Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary and Thrumshingla National Park, the intention being to promote exchange of national park and nature reserve management experiences, interaction between personnel and joint participation in management organization meetings and other activities.

After the meeting, three days of aborigine village tours were arranged by the park HQ with the hope of creating opportunities for cooperation between visiting scholars and local indigenous people and the development of partnership relations with an international view.
