Entry to Yushan main peak and other peak trails prohibited during snow season

Heavy snow began to fall in the Yushan area at 4 am on January 8. After a series of cold spells and temperatures that have failed to rise above zero C the snow cover around Baiyun Shelter is around 20 cm deep. The snow line on Yushan’s main peak trail has advanced to near Baimulin (5K) about 3.5 kilomters before the shelter (8.5K) making it unsuitable for ordinary climbing activities.

As a result, the main peak and other peak trails were closed at noon on January 10 and will remain closed during the snow season. Ecological protected area entry (park entry) permits already issued are now invalid according to the relevant rules. For entry at a later date the application process must be repeated. Ecological protected area entry permit applications will be accepted once more when the situation allows.

For reimbursement of cleaning fees for Baiyun Shelter that have already been paid please apply to Yushan National Park HQ with the necessary documents. For more information see the ecological protected area entry permit application website.
