Lovely Music In a Gorgeous Natural Setting:Wuling Concert to be held January 23-24
Shei-pa National Park HQ has organized the “ 2010 Shei-pa Wuling Ecology Activity Series” which will take place from the end of January to early March. The activities will include concerts, wooden Formosan landlocked salmon painting and ecological tours. The activity series will kick off with a huqin (two stringed instrument) concert in Wuling’s Hoya Resort on the evening of January 23. The series will officially begin at 10am on January 24 when a cello concert, featuring leading cellists from Taiwan, is held outdoor under plum trees (Prunus Mume) in Wuling’s Xingshi Garden, accompanying the beautiful winter scenery in the pristine valley with lovely music.
During the Wuling flower season, from late January to early February red and white plum blossoms bloom. These are followed by sakura cherry blossoms, several varieties of which bloom until late March. Wuling is also the home of the Formosan landlocked salmon (Oncorhynchus masou formosanus), a rare species native to Taiwan, the population of which has been maintained due to the national park’s sterling conservation efforts in recent years. During the flower season visitors can learn about Wuling’s ecology, admire the flowers and enjoying the duet between nature and musicians. Tours of the Taiwan Salmon Eco Center will be arranged and a wooden salmon painting activity held. The activity series will help raise visitors’ ecological awareness, allow them to enjoy the bio-diversity of Wuling and learn about the importance of salmon protection and the substantial results of conservation efforts.
