Central Cross-Island Highway subject to traffic controls during Chinese New Year. Taroko National Park is to operate a free shuttle bus so visitors can help reduce carbon emissions and avoid traffic jams

During Chinese New Year from February 14th to 19th from 7 am to 4pm the section of the Central Cross-Island Highway from Taroko to Tianxiang will be closed to traffic. During this period the park HQ will operate a free shuttle bus service which will provide service from 7am to 4pm (the last bus will depart from Tianxiang at 3pm). The buses will depart when they are full and visitors can get on and off at any stop. The park HQ said that the shuttle bus will be stress free, convenient and will allow visitors to avoid traffic jams and it is hoped the public makes good use of the service.

In addition, the visitor center and various service stations will close on Chinese New Year's Eve February 13 and then open earlier and close later than normal from the first to sixth day of the new year (February 14-20). Also, the square outside the visitor center will also be the venue for a 「Taroko Spring Festival Creative & Cultural Market」 where visitors can view and buy aborigine woven fabrics, machetes, woven rattan items and other handicrafts, bamboo tube rice and other traditional foods provided by the local community, adding an aborigine flavor to the happy new year atmosphere.
