Yangmingshan National Park HQ calls on people to stop setting animal traps

Recently wild animals and stray dogs that have been injured by steel traps have been found in the park. Such traps pose a serious threat to wild animals and stray dogs.

In autumn last year the park HQ and Taipei Municipal Institute for Animal Health carried out three searches of the area where animals have been injured by traps and gave emergency treatment to injured animals that were found. The traps are usually hidden away in mountain areas or set on private land which makes clearing work difficult.

The park HQ will intensify its efforts to clear these traps and asks that members of the public report their position immediately if they find such a trap. Visitors to the park are also asked to stick to the park trails to avoid being injured by the traps.

The park HQ calls on people not feed or abandon animals or place such traps to avoid punishment for breaking the Wild Animal Protection Law.
To report traps, phone the park’s Conservation Section on 886-2-28617904 or Yangmingshan National Police Corps on 886-2-28613609。
