Purple crow butterfly season activity series begins in Taichung Metropolitan Park

In spring the butterflies return north from Purple Butterfly Valley. To spread the purple crow butterfly (Euploea sylvestor) conservation message Taichung Metropolitan park has once again joined with organizations and groups to organize the April 18-May 9 “Taichung Metropolitan Park Purple crow Butterfly Season activity series.”

Taichung Metropolitan Park is situated in the Datun Mountain area on the border of Taichung city and county and on the flight path of purple crow butterflies. Starting in 2006, the park management office began holding an annual series of purple crow butterfly conservation and environmental activities, also taking the conservation message into schools. This year the content of the activity series has been extended from purple crow butterflies to Taiwan’s diverse butterfly ecology, with the aim of encouraging people to care about butterfly conservation. As for holiday activities, the “Purple crow Butterfly Ecology observation and interpretation” and “Ecological observation and ecological game” activities will be held on April 25 and May 9 while “Purple crow Butterfly mark-release survey and interpretation activity” and “Ecology lecture” will be held on May 2.
