11th Hengchun People’s Olympic long-distance swim Houbihu Marine Resource Protection Demonstration Area sea cleanup becomes a beach clean up activity
The excessive commercial use of and human activity in the Kenting sea area is a serious threat to the area’s bio-diversity. In accordance with the idea of “clean ocean, protecting the earth” Kenting National Park HQ, Kaohsiung Adult Swimming Association and Chinese Taipei Water Sports Association and other organizations organized a sea clean-up on the west side of Houbihu marine resource protection demonstration area’s navigation channel for April 24. Because on the day the sea was rough and the water cold for safety reasons the planned activity was changed to a beach clean-up. In all more than 40 people took part and, after one and a half hours of clean-up work, the refuse was separated and recorded. In total more than 200 kg of everyday refuse and refuse left on the beach by visitors was collected.
