Yangmingshan National Park is quite small in size, however, the park area at an elevation of between 200 and 1,120 meters has a high level of plant community diversity. These complex and changing environments are perfect habitats for butterflies. The colorful visitors search for food amidst the flowers and some breed there.174 varieties of butterfly have been recorded in the park, or over 40% of those recorded in Taiwan, with around 100 varieties low-elevation species that are seen every year.
To encourage more people to observe appreciate these beautiful creatures the national park headquarters has specially arranged the“Butterflies on Caoshan- butterfly photography competition.” As well as observing these lovely summer dancers and their natural environment, people are encouraged to photograph them.
