Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park Invites You to Admire its Flowers

The flame trees (Delonix regia) in phase one of Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park bloom in the scorching May and June heat of southern Taiwan every year, the fire red flowers covering the umbrella shaped tree crown adding dashes of brightly color to the green of the park.

The lotuses in the pond in phase two are also blooming and numerous fish can be seen swimming leisurely between them, creating a scene straight out of “South of the river is the place to gather lotuses” a Yue-fu song of the Han Dynasty.

Since its opening in 1996 Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park has actively carried out public environmental education and sought to establish a good interactive relationship with local people. Also, to nurture the people’s artistic literacy, various art and culture exhibitions are periodically held in the park. The exhibition hall is currently showing the “Eyes on Taiwan’s National Parks” exhibition while the training center has “The public art works of Teacher Chen Xin-lang.” For information about the latest activities and exhibitions call 886-7-3656103 or visit the park’s website: w3.cpami.gov.tw/khmp/kmp-home.htm.
