Climbing helmets available for loan to protect climbers against falling rocks when climbing Yushan
Yushan is a route popular with domestic and overseas climbers. In recent years climbers have occasionally been hit by falling rocks. To protect climbers, from July 1, 2010 the “Yushan main peak climbing helmet loan scheme” will be implemented. Under the scheme helmets can be borrowed from the caretaker of Paiyun Shelter. The person borrowing the helmet must show their park entry permit and leave one piece of ID with photo as security, such as ID card, driving license, student card, IC health insurance card for example. The helmets can be borrowed from 5pm to 8pm every day and should be returned before climbers leave Paiyun Shelter to go down the mountain. For hygiene reasons the park headquarters have also had linings for the helmets made and these are also free to use. After use the linings can be taken away by climbers for further use.
In the early stages the national park headquarters will encourage visitors to wear a helmet and there will be no charge. Climbers are welcome to make good use of this helmet loan service when climbing Yushan.
