Kenting National Park Headquarters denies suppressing news about the appearance of bull sharks in Kenting waters
In response to media claims that “bull sharks have again been seen in the sea off Jianshi in Checheng Township but fishermen have been ordered to keep quiet by the national park headquarters” the park headquarters has issued a clarification:
- The park HQ calls on anyone who sees a bull shark to inform the relevant agencies and media at once to allow protective measures to be implemented effectively.
- The park HQ has increased warden patrols on land and sea in areas that are heavily used by visitors and has also asked coastguard and fisheries administration personnel to be on their guard to ensure that visitors have a safe leisure environment
- If a bull shark in seen in the waters of Kenting visitors safety will take priority and the park HQ will fulfill its responsibility as the managing agency for the sea area of the national park by temporarily suspending all water activities as soon as the shark warning is sounded.
