Traffic controls on the Tunnel of Nine Turns section of the Central Cross-Island Highway July 29-30
The eastern entrance to the Tunnel of Nine Turns trail suffered a landslide recently. To improve safety on the trail and the section of highway near the eastern entrance to the tunnel, Taroko National Park HQ will employ a contractor to carry out slope scraping work July 29-30, with traffic controls in place while work goes on. Traffic will be allowed to pass for ten minutes before and after the hour (for example, between 8.50am-9.10am )
The park HQ arranges the periodic scraping of slopes that are unstable or slopes in places that are heavily visited. Heavy rains and earthquakes can cause the rock to loosen and the Tunnel of Nine Turns’ eastern entrance sees a lot of vehicular and pedestrian traffic so the park HQ has employed a contractor to carry out slope scraping in this area. The park HQ reminded visitors to take care when passing through the area where work is taking place, to give way to other road users and follow the instruction of the personnel implementing the traffic controls. Any inconvenience is regretted.
