The number of black-faced spoonbill in the Tainan area for the winter has exceeded 1000! The population survey counted 1,087 birds by November 14

This year’s Greater Tainan black-faced spoonbill population survey is being carried out by the park HQ together with the Wild Bird Society of Tainan City and the Tainan County Black-faced spoonbill Conservation Association, guided by NTNU professor Wang Ying. The first stage of the winter survey was carried out on October 10, counting 47 birds. The third stage on November 14 counted 1087 black-faced spoonbills. The global black-faced spoonbill population survey on January 10, 2010 recorded 2347 birds, with 1185 in the greater Tainan area alone, not just in the black-faced spoonbill reserve, also in Sicao Wildlife Refuge and Qigu’s Dingshan area. It is hoped that even more black-faced spoonbills will arrive to spend the winter in the greater Tainan area.
