A black-faced spoonbill visits Dongsha Marine National Park
A member of staff of Dongsha Marine National Park’s Dongsha Management Station spotted a black-faced spoonbill in the park in November. The national park headquarters said that the black-faced spoonbill (Platalea minor) is very rare and is a critically endangered worldwide. The bird was an adolescent and was seen on the sandbank on the north shore of Dongsha Lagoon and soaring in the air.
Marine National Park Headquarters said that land ecological restoration work is currently being carried out in the park and a good partnership relationship has been established with the Dongsha coastguard command, with ecological and environmental resource education work carried out on a monthly basis to strengthen the conservation awareness of the men to ensure that wildlife on the island is left completely undisturbed; also coastguard command personnel regularly carry out joint beach cleaning and white popinac removal work together with the park’s conservation personnel, with the aim of, by correctly planning and carrying out ecological restoration work, making Dongsha Island once again an island paradise covered in greenery.
