Taroko National Park Invites Volunteers to clean up rubbish. The volunteers says to visitors: “Please don’t recklessly discard rubbish!”

In addition to inviting volunteers to plant vegetation Taroko National Park’s Tianxiang Service Station invited volunteers to clean up rubbish from the trail head of Lushui-Wenshan Trail on Meiyuan-Zhucun industrial road. This road is close to Taosai Creek and Dasha Creek and the terrain is rugged. The winds in the area mean that rubbish discarded by visitors on the trail ends up in inaccessible place on slopes along the trail and is thus difficult to clean up. To address this problem the park headquarters regularly invites volunteers to carry out clean up work.

The volunteers came from all over Taiwan, with some driving over the mountains especially for the occasion, impressing many with their willingness to make an effort to keep Taroko tidy.

To clear the accumulated rubbish, volunteers with climbing skills abseiled down to clean up rubbish from the bottom of ravines and from steep slopes, their commitment moving onlookers. After completing a full day’s clean up work, the volunteers were tired but happy and had a real sense of achievement, however, with one voice they said “We hope that visitors will stop recklessly throwing rubbish away when visiting Taroko National Park!”
