Kenting National Park Holds “Blessings from Egrets” Birdwatch Event

Kenting in the beginning of September also marks the beginning of the migratory season. Every fall, Hengchun Peninsula is greeted by their first wave of visitors including various plovers, sandpipers, snipes, waterfowls, egrets, shrikes and hawks. The mountain wilderness and skies of Kenting become a boisterous playground for birds and visitors. Kenting National Park Management Department will hold a “Blessings from Egrets” birdwatching event on September 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th and October 1st and 2nd in the Longluan Lake Nature Center and the South Coast parking lot.

Longluan Lake has long been known by the beautiful name “Paradise of Water Birds.” The south coast of this lake is the best scenic spot to watch flocks of egrets migrating south. Furthermore, home to beautiful waters, verdant grasslands and large flocks of egrets, Hengchun Peninsula is the only scenic spot in the whole of Taiwan to offer this spectacular view. Since Longluan Lake is the last station for these migratory birds, majestic sights of hundreds of thousands of birds can be seen resting, flying in the air and covering the sky, or penetrating the setting sun in their classic upside-down V-formation. These sights are sure to leave you in awe and amazement. In addition, due to the immense numbers of egrets, visitors can relax, sit back and watch the birds frolic and fly without the need of binoculars.
