Red Flags Set Up in the Four Sea Areas of Kenting to Caution for the Arrival of Undercurrents
In light of the terrible sea conditions that produce undercurrents before and after a typhoon or during the high season of the south west air current, the management department of Kenting National Park will set up four triangular, red warning flags as a reminder to swimmers to enhance their awareness. This is largely due in part of the drowning aaccidents that are prone to happen under the aforementioned conditions. According to observations, tourists enjoy jumping into the water to frolic with companions, especially when the waves are high. Unfamiliar with the properties of the water and lacking caution in unknown seas, these tourists put themselves at a high risk for drowning. Beaches that provide long-term stationed patrollers include Baisha, Nanwan, Dawan, Chuanfanshi, Gungko and other sea territories. Aside from the more dangerous marine environment in Dawan, where swimming is restricted, the waters of Gungko are occupied mostly by surfers. The rest of the waters all have swimming areas, and swimmers are advised to swim within the marked area. Therefore, in order to minimize the number of incidents that occur in the sea, red flags will be set up according to the condition of the sea prior to the arrival of undercurrents. May swimmers watch out for these flags and may every visitor return home happy, safe and sound!
