If You Love Me, Then Don’t Feed Me!
The management department at Yushan National Park reminds visitors to avoid feeding the Formosan Rock Macaques. Feeding these monkeys will lead to five downsides: 1) Overreliance on humans. 2) Changes in their feeding habits. 3) Stealing from each other. 4) Nutritional imbalance. 5) Severe conflict between humans and monkeys. Furthermore, excessive contact with the monkeys can cause transmission of diseases between humans and monkeys, leading to sickness and death in monkeys and virus infections in humans. If you were unfortunately bitten or scratched by a wild Formosan Rock Macaque, immediately let cold water run over your hands wash your hands for fifteen minutes before seeking medical attention. Maintain a safety distance of four meters when observing or taking pictures of these monkeys. Those that drove here should park their cars in the parking lot and keep their doors and windows closed. Do not carry food or any plastic bags or containers when in the park to prevent provoking the monkeys, who often mistake these for food. We lastly remind you that those that freely feed our wild animals and break the rules of the park will be penalized with by a NTD $3000 fine (maximum).
