Rare Guests “Asian Paradise-flycatcher” Visits Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park
After a decade of no shows, the rare migratory bird, “Asian Paradise-flycatcher”, native to Asia, finally reveals itself again! On September 14th, an Asian Paradise-flycatcher suddenly appeared in Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park. There are three species of Paradise-flycatcher’s that are most often sighted in the area of Taiwan—Purple Paradise-flycatcher, Black Paradise-flycatcher and Asian Paradise-flycatcher. Preferring to move alone, the Asian Paradise-flycatchers often inhabit evergreen broad-leaf forests, tropical rainforests and other areas, and migrate to tropical countries in Southeast Asia for the winter season. Also situated in the tropical rain belt of Southeast Asia, sightings of this rare species have always been difficult and nearly impossible in Taiwan. Due to the environment and climate change in recent years, Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park has not had any recordings of migrating Asian Paradise-flycatchers in a decade. This time, the rare guests have returned and their beautiful silhouettes make it difficult for anyone to turn their eyes away. Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park owns abundant ecosystem environments and thick, luscious green forests and land. There are currently over 141 species of birds resting here. May everyone love and protect the little birdies, letting them enjoy the green vegetation and rich feeding area.
