Travel to Shei-pa for a Fall Stargazing Event

The management department of Shei-pa National Park is holding a stargazing event in the beginning of October. A number of Astronomy experts have been invited to speak on the basics of astronomy and guide visitors on their astronomical observations. With the revolving of the earth, the “Summer Triangle”, the hallmark of summer, gradually moves closer to the western horizon, and the Square of Pegasus moves overhead, dividing the Hercules Family and the Heavenly Waters Family to form the most important constellation of the starry fall sky. Furthermore, astronomy expert Geng Chong-Hua will share her expertise on astrology and myths, further embraced by a succession of meteor showers. This year’s focus is on the Draconid meteor shower which might possibly replicate its explosive behavior of 1933 and 1946, where 10,000 meteoroids rained down on Earth every hour. This year, it will take place in the dawn of October 8th or 9th. The speed of the Draconid meteor shower is especially slow, and, coupled with extremely low radiant points, we believe that there is ample time for admiration as they stream from the sky. The later half of October holds the Orion meteor shower. If you’re lucky to witness it, don’t forget to close your eyes and make a wish.
