Everyone is Welcome to Come and See the Birds as Kenting Enters the Peak Seasons of Bird Migration

As the bird migration enters its peak seasons this fall in Kenting, the park administration is prepared to carry out conservation work that includes survey of migratory birds of prey and information on other migratory birds. The first wave of birds passing through Taiwan to the warm Southern Oceans began with the overnight stay of swallows in Hengchun, followed by waders and blue rock thrush. Also appearing in large numbers over the Hengchun Peninsula are the brown shrikes; migration of various types of egrets is also underway. A survey from the first of September to 21st has identified 8 types of migratory birds of prey, with 55,737 Chinese Goshawks being the most abundant species recorded. This year the park administration is working with the Pingtung District Prosecutor’s Office to support its “Protect Wild Birds, No Poaching” operation in the Hengchun Peninsula, cracking down on illegal hunting of migratory birds and urging the public to “Not eat, trade and poach the migratory birds.” In addition, the public is welcome to check out the Hengchun Peninsula’s Bird of Prey Biological Exhibition, which will be on display at the Visitor Center until October 30th.
