Kenyan Runner Kogei Hosea Kipyego Takes the Crown during the 2011 Taroko Gorge Marathon held on November 5th
The 2011 Taroko Gorge Marathon was held onNovember 5th and, like previous years, this year's event includedthe 42.195km Marathon division, the 21km Half-Marathon division and the 5km FunRun. All 10,500 places were filled just 3 days after registrations were opened,including 326 foreign athletes from 22 countries. The organizers also invited 3world-class athletes from Kenyato make the race more competitive. In the end, the Kenyan athletes won thefirst three places in the Men's division and 1st place in theWomen's division. Kenyan runner Kogei Hosea Kipyego was the grand champion,with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes and 39 seconds, the second-fastest time todate. First place in the Women's division went to Kenyan runner Emiky ChepkemoiSamoe, with a time of 2 hours, 52 minutes and 36 seconds. "Kiss 100"and "Cheering 100" events were also held at the Taroko Plateau at thefinish line this year to heighten the mood. The local communities were alsoinvited to set up stalls to sell Taroko tribal handicrafts to the generalpublic.
