Taroko Volunteers Clean Up Xibao and Huoran Pavilion, Remove Invasive Plants
The Taroko National ParkAdministration recently invited volunteers and local residents to help clean-upthe environment around the Xibao Plantation and Huoran Pavilion Trail. InNovember of last year, a group of volunteers used their spare time to plant 450seedlings of indigenous trees, like the Michelia, Lagerstroemia subcostata kochne, Odor-Bark Cinnamon, Soap Tree, FloweringAsh, Taiwan Beech, Red Cedar and Taiwan Cherry. A clean-up campaign was alsoorganized for the surrounding trails. This year's clean-up effort at the XibaoForest Plantation Area included mowing, weeding, replanting native trees, removingrubbish and uprooting Whitetop Weeds, an invasive species. Trained volunteersalso abseiled down the difficult terrain around Huoran Pavilion to clean up thehillside and the sides of the trails. The flowerbeds were also planted with thenative species Hypericum geminiflorum Hemsl. Following the principle of a return to naturein landscaping and forestation helps to promote bio-diversity.
