New Image of the Shoushan National Nature Park – Upholding Environment Ethics and Advocacy of Park Prohibitions
According to the CPAMI, the Prohibited Activities within the Shoushan National Nature Park were promulgated by the MOI on June 22nd, 2012, which stipulated the prohibition of feeding Taiwan macaque monkeys, stray cats and dogs, and illegal buildings. To enforce the regulations, the Shoushan National Nature Park Planning Office held a series of environment education events during the summer vacation time, hoping to communicate the concepts of environment protection to youngsters. The office also designed brochures and pamphlets to promote the regulations, handing them out at entrances to hiking trails. To date 1,500 people have been educated of the new regulations, and by the end of August, 20 or so regulation notices were issued by the National Park Police Corps for severe violations - mostly incidents of feeding monkeys and stray animals. The office will continue its efforts to dissuade further violations, and reminds the public that repeat offenders face fines ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 NTD.
