2012 World Ocean Day Beach Clean-up Activity

The International Coastal Cleanup activity originated in 1986 from Texas, United States, and for the last 25 years has become a global initiative, with nations organizing coastal clean up activities on the 3rd Saturday in every September. For this year, the Kenting National Park Headquarters and the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium jointly organized the 2012 World Ocean Day Beach Clean-Up Activity, stimulating public awareness of caring for coastal environments, and promoting the importance of marine conservation. The event was successfully concluded on the morning of September 15th, with a total of 300 participants from business groups and the general public. A total of 2,000kg plus of trash was collected during the event, and about 120kg of trash, fish nets and tree branches was recovered from the ocean by about 130 divers. The KNPH and the NMMBA wish to thank everyone who participated in keeping our coasts clean.
